For you I was a flame.

i'm supposed to blog about how Reposicion 2007 went. but it's all a bit blurry even till now. i didnt have as big a hangover as last yr. i still feel like a big part of me is gone. and i think i could have done better. i didnt achieve what i set out to do. i still need to do some soul-seaching. which is really a pity cos the timing is a lil late now. all i can think of was the Justin song in the previous entry, which in a way summarised part of what was in my head.

i have 4 weeks' worth of Everwood/Veronica Mars/Gilmore Girls video tape lyin in front of the video, what i like to call my Sunday Gold Rush. my Sunday prime time is from 4pm - 7pm. it could have been 5 weeks but i ran out of video tape last week, so sadly i missed it. i haven been watchin tv for a long time. I only caught 3 episodes of The Amazing Race so far, i didnt know Survivor China is alrdy over till i saw the reunion show. I didnt watch the Pussycat dolls show even though i wanted to before it aired. and the scary thing is, I AM FINE WITH IT!?

until just now. when i caught one episode of EVERWOOD on tape. it was kinda weird sitting on the couch cos i haven do that for so long. i've been sitting in front of the computer for so long. so watchin tv feels different like u need to really pay attention. i begin to miss watchin tv and tt sense of comfort, and regret all that i've missed. Everwood is one of those shows that are highly quotable. each episode makes me simultaneously grounded, appreciative, humble, and feel loved in 1 hour. which is more than i can say for what's on tv now. and at that point, i fell in love with it all over again.

ya. i am havin mixed feelings. i love EVERWOOD.

曲:侧田(on your mark)

8 days

no, i am not doin a good job.
things are spinning so fast now tt it is hard for me to catch up.
though i know that things will turn out fine eventually, but i don't want it to be just fine.i want to be the best tt is yet to be. but with 8days left, it feels like there's no time for damage control anymore.

these few days i have been working with the kids. it made me realise tt the reason why i am doin this again is not because i want to rekindle/start off any feelings or bond with my committee. now i want to do it for them. although i know at the back of my head tt it's one of my objective, but now i truely feel the desire to make this more about them instead of us. those tt i've worked with made me realise that there's so much hidden potential in youths. that they still have the energy to dream big and hopefully live it because the future is a black canvas waiting to be written. to have and be that, is probably one of the things i miss most about my sec sch life. and the scary part is, how some of them have so much potential, yet they do not know that they are capable of achieving them.

i guess that's where teachers come in. and tt's why i've always wanted to be a sec sch teacher. these few days i was awed and impressed at what 16 yr olds can do. their friendship. their determination. and their drive. rather than them learning from me, i feel like i have alot to learn from them.

23 Dec. i cant wait. yet i dun wan it to happen as well. i cant say tt i've enjoyed every step along the way (and i know that i will be left empty after that), but given another chance i would do it again in a heartbeat.

but nothing lasts forever. we all sld know tt. i need to pursue my long-hidden dreams as well.

Golden Horse Award 07

第44屆金馬獎《莫文蔚 & 古巨基》‧《愛,別巨風蔚》

古巨基 is one of my fav singers in the world. his albums and singing just keep gettin better. like wine. and he took the elixir of life also man. anti-aging.
and Karen Mok is one of the most under-rated singers. so stylised and unique. she sld be more famous than alot of the jumpers out there.

Jam Xiao蕭敬騰 Golden Horse Award 07 (8 Dec 07)

this vid left out the excruciating piece of presentation between Li Yundi and Tang Wei. what bad scripting.

but on a high note, this performance had me at HELLO.
if u watched, or listened to the originals, u'd realise how this set is more rocked out and the way he presents it...it makes u hate the original.
this is the uncut version, unseen on ch U, featuring a very brief lip-lock between Rainie and another female at the screen (one of the songs nominated was from the movie Tattoo)
and song 3. what a beautiful twist. so hard to sing i wished it lasted longer.
and Soda Green's ditto. notice how his eyes lit up.

as much as i hate his name and all the breakfast associations, they way he sings is just mesmerising and charismatic. close to magic.

people

Barb's songs have the greatest opening lines.
-The Way We Were's classic "memories, like the corner of my mind". just listening to the opening music wld put me at peace.

- Coming In and Out of your Life's "and i still remember, the last time i cry i was holding you and loving you".

- "Papa, can you hear me?"

- "Midnight. not a sound from the pavement." yes, Memories fr Phantom has been covered to death.

- "what are you doing the rest of your life?"

- and the one tt gets me in the mood tonight, People's "People, people who need people are the luckiest people in the world."

24 days later

so much has been putting me in perspective recently. seeing jjc's prom, qj's assertive advice, speakin with the kids.

24 days is really a scary number. i remember how i set out to go all the way. now it seems like i've not even reach halfway, and it feels like a tragedy already.

i need to be as proactive as before my exams. i need to think out of the box even if not under any challenge. i need to set everything straight. the power tt comes with being chairperson is that unspoken authority to dismiss most of what you do not like. in a way, things run according to my rules. they abide by my restrictions. tt's not to say i do not compromise. i believe i have been compromising all these while.

but tt's not so easy to do given how ppl put u down with snide remarks.

but i'll live. watch me.

dad is watchin Sandy Lam's 1991 LD. the only music of the night.

我爱蔡琴

I think my sister's supernatural power is her ability to understand Indians. Not only can she dance Indian Dance, she seems to understand those with an accent thicker than my curry.

the past few days were torturous. webcast episodes that last for hours and she seems to be enjoying it, taking down notes and uttering epiphanic eureka!-ish "OOOOHHH!". all i can hear thou is raatatatataatbuhr! datatatatatbuhr! sudden breaths into the mic never sounded so offensive and irritating. heck it even ruined my mood to watch tv.

i think expat Indians must be thinking why the world around them is moving in slow motion. Now i know why NTU/NUS students are so stressed out. If i'm failing my exams, touch wood, I'm so banning the NUS website on my computer.

PS: i am not a racist.

王菲 clips

youtubing Faye Wong. such a pleasure.

this is a Fanfan cover, from her Taiwan sold out concert.

this is from HK. yes, tt's heels on her head. who else can make tt look so elegant huh.

these 2 are consecutive clips from an unplugged segment in her HK concert. i always wana cry whenever i see this 3-song segment, which culminates in a very tragic 只願為你守著約, which is one of my favourites and the best version of the song i've heard.

enjoy. who else can pull a 2hr+ gig with no backup dancers. only Faye. kills me tt i actually missed her last concert here. sighhhh. as her tagline for her 菲比尋常 tour would say, No Faye No Live.

Lions for Lambs

On my way to work I would usually catch a glimpse of this slick black poster across a side of the wall.

Instead of spending an evening buried in books, i decided to catch Lions For Lambs at Lido. It wasnt a very productive day anyway. went to look for Auntie Jenny after work, then to Sony Ericsson service centre to service my phone. My second trip in 2 weeks time. the damn loud speaker went bonkers just after 1 fall! and i had just customised my "Good Morning Baltimore" alarm tone. shit. sony-ericsson phones eat dirt.

so. LFL is more than just a politically charged film. it questioned the present state of society 6 yrs after 9/11. youth culture and its decadence. higher education and its loss of idealism. entertainment news and current affair news' values and balance. service to country. personal values and beliefs. potential. what wld we have done differently on 9/12?

i went in to see Meryl, hoping she would jolt me out of my monotous monday blues and give me some life. Meryl being Meryl, the greatest living thespian of an American actress, did a good job. it wasnt a flashy role, nor were there surprises, but Meryl's face always managed to speak a thousand words that simultaneously makes u gawk in awe at her acting chops and feel for her character. playin Janine Roth, a reporter asked to report on the govt's latest plans to win the war on terrorism, she had to question personal beliefs, both past and present, in a regime that is growing increasing weary on the world and America. 6 yrs ago the world was on their(America) side. 6 yrs later they had to face one of the toughest times the country has seen. one cannot help but be jaded and cynical(in her prick retorts to Cruise's lines) to what is offered.

Tom Cruise was surprisingly understated. one might have expected an OTT performance ala Oprah couch jump, or at least some furious love and Scientology professions. or maybe shave his head bald. i must admit that i am embarrassed that i use to like Tom. some said Top Gun or Risky Business made his career. but for me, Rain Man was the epitome Tom performance. i havent seen his Oscar nominated Born On the 4th of July yet, but that character he played in Rain Man was what Tom was best at: the egotistic, confident smooth talker so full of himself that you thought he could get away with his mega-watt smile. so characterised by the likes of Jerry Maguire (the early part of it) and the MI franchise, this is Tom being convincing. he speaks like he believed in everything he said, and you almost joined him cos he was so full of it. for that, i give him props. and i still sorta look forward to the minor stuffs he does like Magnolia and Collateral.

Robert Redford helmed the difficult task of weaving the 3 plot lines together. it was seamless and smooth, and he had to act in it as well! so props. but the best was of cos the story of the two soldier. while it ended in tragedy and did not give the movie a closure (the way reality hasnt got one either), the dramatic irony of it all was how it all came too late. the rescue bombing came after lives were lost, which sums up a portion of the movie's big themes and many questioning: it might be too late now to make amends.

while all the political talk can be muddling sometimes, the questioning of fulfilling one's "potential" struck deep. was "potential" cultivated or inate? can fulfilling one's "potential" guarantee an easy life? is trying ever enough? and what happens to those who were never seen for their "potential"?

so skipping studies for the theatre was worth it. i needed that jolt to get me out of my state of ambivalence then. and they say movies are forms of escapism. what is wrong with that, if it only encourages you to live stronger and bolder.

back to mugging.

i cant wait for Cate. i bought the OST alrdy.

i hope Nicole makes me hate her so much i wana kill her. i hope she matches Miranda Priestley in devilish quality and return to form ala Moulin Rouge. bold. lush. such a surprise.

the huge wallpaper at Lido of Nicole is drool-worthy.
SICKENING that my phone was sent for service. i wana take photoooo!

Holland V-ing

met up with quin+shu+haz again. we had dinner at Vietnamese restaurant in Holland V (i think it was called Pho Ho or something), where the fried potato pancake was quite the kick. and crisy tow-gay (beansprout) also. as usual, it was a very entertaining catching up. it started off hilariously as the other 3 wld know but i am too lazy to re-enact. something involving seeing someone in a car and not too sure who was in the passenger's seat. yea.

then we headed to cold rocks ice creamery for expensive ice-cream, which, as Haz describes, involves something about slapping ice cream and mixing it up on a marble tile. marbile tile?! i pictured my ice-cream melting all over the tile and spilling over onto the table. at last, it was PREPARED on the tile. not SERVED on it. phew. cheesacake icecream and their suggested apple pie ice-cream mix taste awesome.

Shoe affirmed and encouraged me to try flying. i never really told anyone this lil fantasy i have until, yesterday i think when i told peiyih. but after her encouragement, i felt like i sld really put tt as a goal. hahahaha.
i know why i like hanging out with them. they make me take life at a slower pace. not a slacker mode. just more relax. shu always seems so laid back, yet has everything under control. Quin is motivated. Haz is, was, emo, now bubbly. i love it. i always tell myself to take matters more cool calm collected. but the effect wears off after a while. we need to meet up more often. yea.

i haven been doin much today, so off to mug for my exams and get ready for work later. i love Holland V cos the cool ones hang there. yet i simultaneously hate it for its unintentional elitism and exclusivity.

here's some pics. very tempted to put shu's gruesome ic pic. but shall protect her privacy. hahahahahaha

music and Tanya

hearing Tanya Chua's album gets me dperessed.
i love it. she has a knack for makin u feel "sour-hearted".

Jay Chou has got to be the most important singer of our generation, for various reasons at that. his album sells like hotcakes man. Tampines Mall pre-order quantity alone is already 409 pcs. no one sells as many albums as him. no record's release can cause such a commotion. not even Jacky Cheung. not even Britney.

just by sellin his disc alone one's hands can get feeble alrdy. bleahz.

XMAS. anyone?

you know it's Christmas when Orchard have their lights streamed from post to post.
I know it's Christmas when Christmas albums aplenty start streaming into my workplace.

perhaps that's why i'm already making my resolution list. this time, i am starting early for good.
Jan - June. idol season. idle season. i have a list of things to accomplish during this period, and i really cant wait.
july - Dec. this is usually the busy period. but with me takin a backseat for next yr's prom, i prob will have time on my hand again.

its funny. Dec aint here and i am making plans. i cant wait for exams to be over, so that i can focus on prom and ippt. yessss. ippt. frak.

i'm the one who loves you, inside and out. backwards and forwards. with my heart hanging out - Feist, Inside and Out

Its Brat-ney Spree-ars and her moolah, bitch

The Straits Times rarely amuses me. But I read an article today that was not only ridiculous and funny, it also had a slight tinge of character! whoow!

WHERE THE MONEY GOES

Spear's monthly income: US$737,000(S$1.06 million)

What She Spends On
- Mortgage for two houses: US$49,267
- Clothes: US$16,000
- Entertainment, gifts and vacation: US$102,000
- Eating out: US$4,758
- Education, savings and investments: US$0
- Charitable contributions: US$500
- Child support: US$15,000
- Spousal support: US$20,000

What Fed-ex Spends On
- Rent US$7,500
- Security: US$6,000
- Clothes: US$2,000
- Entertainment, gifts and vacation: US$5,000
- Eating out: US$1,500

i dunno whether to feel lucky for Fed-ex, or feel sorry for him. apparently, he's not spending as much!

"Although she is often photographed eating fast food, she declares she spends about US$4,758 eating out."
my visual literacy lecture was put to good use, as the article had a pic of Britney eating fastfood.

it puts so much perspective as i am listening to her latest album. yea, its a good album. but i am just gonna rip it. since she's not donating it or spending it on education anyway. it's all gonna end up on wigs and dance lessons. and fast food. gasp.

the rich have it all yet dunno where to put their brains to good use.

here. Brit's Memorable moments. pic/quote 10 is the most ironic.

infuriating idiots

gosh
i must have been stupid for not knowing that Kino actually sells Chet Lam's books.
Heck i dun even know why that idea never came across my mind.
that was one of the highlights that came out of my totally irrational, impromptu shopping trip.
what started as a short trip to HMV and town, since i haven been there in quite a while, ended up with me spending $72 on books.
yes. out of reckless passion and the lack of money-sense, i bought 3 Chet books.
i didnt even see if there's any newspaper cutout coupon avail these days, or if anyone had the privilege card.
i was merely looking for a book a friend recommended(i got tt too). who knew i wld be so lucky.
no regrets thou. in between tutorial just now, i read a few pages and scanned thru it.
comparing Tsai Chin with Robbie Williams, comparing Spore weather to its locals.
cant wait to read more.

who knew buying and spending could be so liberating. everytime i buy a book it's as if it's screaming at me to read it. but i have so many unread stuff in my room. someone sld really remind me to read more.

and reading a fucking website got me infuriated now. such false pretences and criticism and assumptions. and a fucking FAQ. wth.
idiots.

she makes a man wanna speak Spanish

yes, "she makes a man wana speak Spanish"
how aptly put.
notice the first chorus, where she teared in 1 frame. beautiful.
youtube dun do this black/white vid justice. you gotta see it on a larger screen.
i see an acting career coming soon.

this is one of my fav pop songs. they lyrics are just fantastically whimsical, and funny too. the mtv is v. interesting. mud, horses, water!

and, really, her hips dun lie.

and is it to late to rave about The Fray now? Look After You is so in my head now.

darling i'm killed

while the rest of the world is raving and addicted to Facebook, i find myself hooked on another cyber-activity: MSN Music in concerts.

yessss. MSN has this incredible range of concerts from indie acts to the international superstars. while waiting for Feist to debut tml, i've caught Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, Paulo Nutini, and John Mayer! John Mayer! its like an orgasm watchin him have his orgasm-face while playin the guitar. waiting in line is Black Rebel Motorcycle club, the bravery, etc etc. thou some gigs r not full-length 2 hr shows, some, like Maroon 5's, has a terrific songlist. i think i need some Sundays to just chill and pig-out on sundaes and McFlurrys with MSN Music.

speaking of Music, i'm currently listening to Mark Ronson's VERSIONS. this dude is the prodigy who produced Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse's latest albums, two of the best selling and most critically acclaimed albums to come out of Britain in the past yr.this latest from MR is an inversion of other singer's songs. tunes like Britney's TOXIC and Coldplay's GOD PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE are given new twists, with saxophone, lotsa beats, and trumpets. definitely a feel-good album tt wld get u goin.

and FEIST's THE REMINDER is also one of the best i've ehard this yr so far. her phrasing is just so teasing to the ear. its a folksy, rather jazzy album to unwind to. go watch MSN tml to know what i mean.

and i got LEO Ku'S MOMENTS already! so exciting.

k. indulgence. ps: rediscovering Matchbox Twenty with their latest album of new songs + greatest hits. LOVE.

就让我走

i am caught in the middle, between Auntie Jenny and my com members and Mrs Terrence.
she is caught between us and her incapable chairperson and passive members.

i am caught between work, and the desire to have personal time.
i am caught, between my thoughts, and the words that come out.

cant wait to catch Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There.

Kumar The Queen

"Singapore: first world country on the outside, third world country on the inside. and the government up our backside."

from his first trademark "AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH" as he descends down tt Elizabethan hanger with tt Queen E corset, i had an idea it was goona be great. caught Kumar the Queen with Quin + Eunice. it's drop dead hilarious itellyou. we got cheap cheap $27 bucks student price. it was eighth-tenth funny, one-tenth being curtain call and one-tenth being costume changes. and itellyou, she changes damn fast! i mean, HE. China. Thailand. India. UK. London. Africa. Brazil. Singapore. damn good figure tt beats everyone else's. dancing in stilettos. gyrating. cannibalism. ganges river. racist jokes. indian movies. tons of MM Lee jokes. no real plot. could have been tighter at points. funny accents. topless guys and sexy girls. lip-sync. lots of dance. lots of smoke. lots of laugh.

lots of laugh.

State of Mind

Words & Music : Chet Lam

I remember you just like your coffee hot
Take no pictures of the things that you ain't got
So softly, so gently
You left me with my beating heart

Unknot my throat I ease my soul with a cold cold beer
Take some time recalling you with some warm warm tears
For someone or something
Never meant to be

Just spread your wings and fly away
and just leave it all behind
When you think of me
Remember I'm your state of mind

take a deep breathe and quit again
and I'll leave it all behind
If I think of you
You're just another state of mind

Doesn't matter where I go or whom I'm with
Makes no difference when you'll be or who you'll see
Close your eyes, make your peace
Down your heart, where I'd be

Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-changin'

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.
