Fright Night - 250908

Fright Night was a blast. what started as my dare to becca to watch ALIENS, alone in her room without closing her eyes, spun off into a horror movie marathon that includes some rare cameo appearances: Belle, Yien, QJ, Jenni, Susan, Huifen, Lionel, Bec, and me. it's probably one of our best marathons so far, as some of us revisited our (childhood) nightmares (Freddy Kreuger for me, and Emily Rose for Lionel, while others had their creativity tested and stimulated. What results was a highly professional event poster tt rivals those real posters u see in theatres.

credits and copyrights to Jennifer Law, who tweaked some details to make this facebook pic so real. hahahaha. and kudos to our poster boy QJ for pulling off such a, erm, gruesomely horrific face.

and then there was Jurassic Belle, whose appearance was so timely to our movie marathon and FB commenting that i thought this is the most hilarious piece of shit i've seen this week. ahhahahahahah. i literally LOL. bec, u're guilty of it also i know =) and you, you, you and you also!

classic.

so we watched 5 movies in all, with the last two being spillovers into the next afternoon and continued after brunch. there's

A Nightmare on Elm Street

The Grudge

The Exorcism Of Emily Rose

Psycho

Rosemary's Baby

i've realised that my last 6 posts or so were mainly pop culture related stuff, and like Yien said, "it's like some Mediacorp website." hahhahah. erm ok. but u know i cant blog abt a movie marathon without reviews!

i've conquered my fear of Freddy Kreuger. after watchin Johnny Depp being eaten up by his bed when i was a kid, i've always been tormented by this evil with knives for fingers, believing that he might be under my bed, together with aliens, and attack me in my dreams. hahhaha. despite the promising poster, and it being directed by Wes craven, the guy who rebooted the whole slasher-flick genre with the pioneering SCREAM, the movie was quite terrible and typically C-Grade horror with a clueless ending. the premise was good, but even Freddy looked a lil silly on hindsight now. thank god for Johnny Depp's first performance.

The Grudge is the english remake of the Jap hit Ju-On. despite being directed by the same guy, the movie was not scary la. perhaps the Scary Movie franchise jinxed the whole notion of a white-washed mother-son as a fearful wide-eyed duo and made them less scary by spoofing them. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jason Behr was totally useless in the film la.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose was a sleeper-hit, in all sense of the word. it knocked out belle bec and qj, but for those who managed to stay on, it's a great movie. Laura Linney is always satisfaction guaranteed. the show verges close to being a courtroom drama, but important and significant flashbacks of the exorcism and possession, featuring a great Jennifer Carpenter (i think i got the name wrong), kept the movie gripping and exciting. sharp and smart, the bewitching hour of 3am was quite spooky enough to frighten Lionel again. =) hahahah. after this movie, we KO-ed before wakin up to good food downstairs.

PSYCHO was quite disappointing, despite being directed by Gus Van Sant, who did Good Will Hunting as well, it was not suspenful in the way i had imagined Hitchcock suspense to be. a thinner Vince Vaughn was not menacing enough, and the infamous shower scene was so-so. Julianne Moore and Viggo Mortensen were a pleasure to watch as always thou.

Rosemary's Baby. the classic that was more recognised as the movie with Mia Farrow's Vidal Sassoon-cut pixie hair, than for being a chilly satanic conspirarcy movie. Tyra Banks overused the words "Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby" on ANTM, during one of the seasons, when asking a hairstylist to give tt particular crop to a model. directed by Roman Polanski, the guy most famous to us for being the director of The Pianist and for having won an Oscar for tt movie but was unable to attend because he had fled the country on charges of child abuse or having sex with a minor i cant remember. it's a suspenseful movie, albeit long at times.

i need to get some sleep first. more updates later.
