It's the time of the year again, when another season of Idol begins. This will very well be the last year that things will remain the same, as Simon Cowell has made it official that he will be leaving the show next year. what bad luck for all of us who have come to love Mr Grumpy's british wit, honesty, and abrasive truth. he will be muchmuch missed. while the show is at the brink of major upheaval next year, season 9 is the time to cherish what is left of Simon Cowell.
I try not to read Rickey.org until Idol starts, and stay away from Idol until the first half of the yr when the show begins a new season. this is to prevent Idol satuaration, less someone comes out with a new album then it'd be worth revisiting those glory months of season past. And as every year begins, i subconsciously go to youtube for 'Tasia solace. oh those glory days, those gold standards of idol magic before Glambert sang with Kiss. before Carrie Underwood's Alone, there was 'Tasia's Summertime. and who can forget those golden few minutes of her sitting down on the Idol stage,in that pink halter-neck, tearing that song apart with equal ferocity and heartbreak. 'Tasia's one for the books.
and so it is, that as the new season begins and we do this all over again, we also look back at past greatness, and keep our love for the show strong; that despite the maddening group of lacklustre performances, bad but funny gimmicky performances, changes to the show, Randy's need for a Thesaurus, Kara's monkey business banging, we're on our way to witnessing greatness every year. and that is what drives us. he doesnt have to be the winner. he just have to deliver that ONE MAGICAL PERFORMANCE that will blow us away, and live up to that legacy, and we're forever enthralled and a believer.
This is the search for the next American Idol. and this one's for the fans.
